Letting my hands take the lead…
As an artist, I’m always trying to challenge myself beyond my usual capabilities, whether that’s experimenting with different brushes in procreate or colour palettes I’m not used to, or working through poses I’m uncomfortable with.
Hands have always been a struggle for me, especially when it comes to making them feel natural at rest or in gesture within my style.
For this after study, I chose three hand references I knew would challenge me because of how awkwardly positioned they were. What I noticed while working was that instead of trying to copy the reference exactly, I kept asking myself: How would I draw this in my style?
Accuracy mattered, but so did letting it still feel like my art.
